Quartet Seis

Quartet Seis is a Malaysian classical guitar ensemble established in 2022 under the leadership of esteemed guitarist and educator, Hong Tee. Recognized as one of the nation’s few, and perhaps the only, actively performing guitar quartets, Quartet Seis has rapidly distinguished itself within Malaysia’s classical music scene.

The quartet gave its inaugural performance on 19 December 2022 during the Peninsular Guitar Ensemble Concert at Sunway University. This was followed by its highly successful debut recital on 2 December 2023 at Bentley Music Academy, Petaling Jaya, where the ensemble presented an eclectic programme. The repertoire featured canonical works by Tchaikovsky, Brahms, Boccherini, and Mozart; celebrated Spanish and Latin American composers such as Granados, Manuel de Falla, and Piazzolla; and contemporary contributions by Sergio Assad, Roland Dyens, and Andrew York, including original compositions for guitar quartet and duo.

In 2024, Quartet Seis embarked on a national tour, performing in key cities across Peninsular Malaysia. These included engagements at the International School of Kuala Lumpur (ISKL), TEMU House in Petaling Jaya, as well as appearances in Melaka, Johor Bahru, and, notably, their debut performance in Kota Bharu. This historic concert was held as part of the 5th Anniversary Celebration Festival organized by the Music Society of Kelantan, marking the first-ever classical guitar performance in the city.

Since its founding, Quartet Seis has served as the principal ensemble for the annual Peninsular Guitar Ensemble Concerts, with performances at Sunway University (2022 and 2024) and Keat Hwa High School, Alor Setar (2023). In 2025, the quartet will further extend its regional presence with its anticipated debut performances in Indonesia and Singapore.

Quartet Seis exemplifies a commitment to artistic excellence, cultural outreach, and educational advancement. Through its performances and initiatives, the quartet continues to bridge tradition and innovation, enriching Malaysia’s classical music landscape and fostering greater appreciation for the classical guitar across diverse communities.
